Welcome to FanFic Friday!!!

This is a new column that we'll be alternating with Throwback Thursdays, henceforth.

So, the question of the day, I guess, is - what the heck IS fanfic? Glad you asked:
"Fanfiction (fanfic, fic) is a work of fiction written by fans for other fans, taking a source text or a famous person as a point of departure. Fanfiction is most commonly produced within the context of a fannish community and can be shared online such as in archives or in print such as in zines. Fanfiction is also written by fans in isolation, perhaps shared with a few friends or no one at all. Writing fanfiction is an extremely widespread fannish activity; millions of stories have been written,[1] and thousands more are written daily." (https://fanlore.org/wiki/Fanfiction)

Kung Fu: The Legend Continues led to the creation of 56 distinctive fanzine collections, many of them (like PatternsComing of AgeCorridors, and Splinters of Light) had multiple issues each. These zines were anthologies of different authors, individual novels / novelettes like Exit Wounds or Thursday's Child, or news / letterzines like the Kung Fu Kronicle or Harmonies.
In addition to these ALL Fu fanzines, KF:TLC was also included in almost 40 different multimedia zines like Of Dreams and Schemes or Our Favorite Things, often appearing in multiple issues.
It is still possible to find used zines from places like eBay or garage sales. Some fandoms like Stargate SG-1 even offer digital versions of older zines for download; currently - as far as we know - none are available in KF:TLC fandom.
In an effort to preserve the stories, the artwork (and KF:TLC fandom was blessed with talented artists!!!), the very essence of the creative talents of the series an archive was created.
Taken from fanlore.org - - - "The fandom has its own archive. KFTLC Fanfiction

. It accepts all genre fiction including adult (het) and (slash). It contains over 400 stories, and has quickly become the largest KFTLC repertoire of fan fiction on the internet. Expansion beyond fanfics is planned in the near future, from fan collections to media memorabilia. Contrary to popular fandom observers, the Kung Fu The Legend Continues fandom is not dead!"
With the show fast approaching the 30th anniversary of its debut, with the loss of so many of the original cast and too many talented fan artists and writers, and with a huge number of former KF:TLC websites biting the dust, it became apparent that something needed to be done to preserve the words, the pictures, the soul of the fandom. Subsequently, the Kung Fu: The Legend Continues FanFiction website and archive was born. http://www.kftlcfanfiction.com/

Over the next few weeks, we are going to discuss a wide number of topics: the artists of KF:TLC; the writers and their works; how to write, edit, and publish fanfiction; virtual seasons; digital zines; the future of the archive and website; and we'll end by starting a new format - a fanfic discussion board.

Attached you will find a collection of flyers for some of the fanzines that came out during FU's heyday.

We hope you enjoy this small lookback at the history of KF:TLC's fanfic history. (Bug in ear...a lot of the publishers, editors, writers, and artists of these are actually part of our group!!!!! And if your publication was not listed here, it's just because we didn't have access to it. Please feel free to send us your flyers, pics of your cover and table of contents, snaps of the artwork, anything that you'd like to see here. We want to share it all!!!!!!!!)
